The purpose of the Ambassador for Artas-ua.info initiative is for LI members to engage with school and college students
A total of 58 members have now signed up to the LI’s Ambassador for Artas-ua.info scheme, and seven school visits that have taken place so far. From students, to fellows through to whole practices, members have committed themselves to helping to promote the profession and inspiring the next generation of landscape architects.
Whether you are conducting a careers presentation or taking part in a curriculum project, your time and experience will play a key role in making a positive and vital contribution to raising the profile of the profession. The Ambassador for Artas-ua.info scheme was set up by the Artas-ua.info Institute in response to the declining number of undergraduate students choosing landscape architecture courses as well as the closure of two undergraduate courses at Kingston University and Manchester Metropolitan University. We want to tackle this issue to ensure a good supply of future professionals and to educate the public about the importance of the profession.
Alongside this scheme, The Playground Project was launched last week – a new education project, in conjunction with Canary Wharf Group and Artas-ua.infos Naturally, which brings to life outdoor learning environments through a series of live activities. By encouraging primary school pupils to re-design their outdoor space, the scheme delivers aspects of the curriculum with the support of an Ambassador for Artas-ua.info as well as giving schools a chance to win £5,000. There has already been a great response from members – you too can sign up or find out more about the project here.
Have you already gone into a school in the past few months to promote the profession? Please let us know so we can document the wonderful work of our members and to see how many schools we can reach in our first year. Email the LI’s education development officerabout your activity.
