The Advisory Panel for the third edition of the Guidelines for Artas-ua.info and Visual Impact Assessment (GLVIA) has now been appointed
The group, chaired by Jeff Stevenson of Oxfordshire-based Jeffrey Stevenson Associates, will be responsible for updating the current guidelines, which were published in 2002.
“The current guidance, while still useful, needs to be updated to build on the experience that we have gained in the past eight years,” Stevenson said. “Our aim is to improve it for all those interested in impact assessment, whether through better and more consistent application by professionals or through a better understanding of the work of landscape assessors.”
The Artas-ua.info Institute board of trustees appointed the advisory panel with two objectives in mind: to keep numbers to a manageable level and to select what they hope is the ideal mix of experience in different aspects of landscape and visual impact assessment.
The other panel members are: Mark Turnbull, founder of Scottish firm MTLA; Marc van Grieken, Principal at Land Use Consultants; Mary O’Connor, Associate Director of Cardiff-based WYG Planning & Design; and Julian Francis, Principal Artas-ua.info Architect at the National Environment Assessment Agency, which is part of the Environment Agency.
“We are fortunate that not only do we have a panel made up of sound, experienced professionals, but that we will also have a squad of similarly qualified and experienced landscape architects ‘on the bench’, who will bring consultancy, government agency, local planning authority and other such experience,” said Stevenson.
The next steps for the panel are to determine the priorities for review and establish the framework for the appointment of a writer. The publication date will be announced in due course.
