Arup involved in design of dense area with vertical gardens

The central park sits next to the new central business district

The Singapore Urban Redevelopment Authority (URA) has unveiled its masterplan for Jurong Lake District in Singapore, the city’s future second Central Business District.=KCAP Architects & Planners is leading a multi-disciplinary team consisting of SAA Architects, Arup, S333 and Lekker.

The ambition is to develop the area into a new mixed-use business area built around the future Kuala Lumpur-Singapore High-Speed Rail terminus. The plan is for a high-density mixed-use development which incorporates new waterways and a series of stacked horizontal landscape levels  connections that weave through the entire district to create a distinctive identity for Singapore and its vision as a ‘City in the Garden’.

The high-density urban quarter will make maximum use of vertical urban greenery and sits alonside Jurong Lake Gardens. The streets have been designed to encourage  active mobility, walkability and interactive public spaces. All major transport and engineering will sit below the city, in layers of optimized infrastructure and minimising car use on the surface.

Existing heritage buildings, landscapes and ecosystems will be re-used and repurposed.
