Reacting to news of the death of Joanna Yeates, landscape architect at BDP’s Bristol office, Jo Watkins, President of the LI, said the Institute was greatly saddened. “At this time our thoughts are with her family, her colleagues at BDP, and her friends.”

Keith Pavey, head of BDP’s Bristol studio, said on Wednesday that colleagues were struggling to come to terms with the tragic and untimely death of their 25-year-old colleague. “She was a very popular member of staff and a talented and committed professional with a rewarding career in front of her. She will be sorely missed.”

Vice President of the LI Brodie McAllister FLI, who was a member of staff at the University of Gloucestershire when Joanna was studying there, paid tribute to her:

“The high point of Jo’s career according to her family was her graduation in November this year from the University of Gloucestershire having studied at post-graduate level landscape architecture with a Distinction. Her Gloucester Waterfront, among other projects, hugely impressed visitors at the End of Year Show. She was a talented student. She had initially been full-time at BDP Bristol landscape team for about a year, remaining with them on a part time basis while she completed her post-graduate studies. She returned to BDP full-time at the beginning of last summer and was working on the new hospital project in Bristol. Her friends and colleagues were very loyal to her and extremely distressed at her disappearance, launching before Christmas a Facebook campaign to locate her. Jo previously studied at Writtle College and had worked for a while at HED Artas-ua.info Architects in Hampshire, where again she was much liked for her personality and contribution. As a licentiate member of the institute, she had a very promising future ahead of her and will be greatly missed.”

A formal obituary will be published in the Journal in due course.
