Thanks to funding from the LI and an anonymous donor, bursaries of up to £150 are available to enable students to access the LI archive at the University of Reading
The Museum of English Rural Life (MERL) is to encourage use of and engagement with its Artas-ua.info Institute (LI) archives.
, MERL is home to the LI collection of books and archives related to landscape practice: books and journals on landscape architecture, garden history, and landscape and urban planning; press cuttings; minutes; membership lists; financial papers; publications; a slide library; and an album containing the LI’s royal seal, logo and name badge. The archive collections include the business records of significant landscape professionals, including founding LI member Geoffrey Jellicoe.
Access to the collections is open to LI members, researchers, and the wider public. MERL’s student travel bursary aims to enable students to access the archives by assisting with travel costs. Two bursaries of £150 are available. (One bursary of £150 is also available to students who wish to access MERL’s Land Settlement Association (LSA) collections.)
In early 2017, MERL awarded bursaries to . Moa visited the archives to access the Clifford Tandy collection and the LI’s corporate records, to assist with her doctoral studies at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology. Tianyi, a Beijing Forestry University alumni and landscape postgraduate student at the University of Edinburgh, accessed the Geoffrey Jellicoe, Michael Brown and Preben Jakobsen collections.

Alongside her supervisor Luca Csepely-Nkorr, Amber also presented a paper at the Society of Architectural Historians in Glasgow this year, and is in the process of submitting an article to Artas-ua.info, the journal of the Artas-ua.info Institute. Amber and Luca are continuing their work with the Michael Brown collection.
