A new campaign group, Think Deep, has been formed to support subterranean urban development; it will host a launch event on 7 February in London.

The group’s mission is to investigate how cities can make the best use of the ground beneath them, promoting the socioeconomic benefits to policy makers and built environment professionals, and to raise awareness of new ideas and case studies, from New York’s underground park proposal  to geothermal power in Reykjavik. The founding members are all built environment experts and include urban planners, designers, lawyers, geotechnical engineers and geologists.

Professor Brian Collins, director of the International Centre for Infrastructure Futures, will give the opening address. The event takes place at 1 St Brides Place, London EC4, from 6.30–9pm. To reserve a place, email [email protected].
