Call to make protection of parks a legal requirement

The 'Save Our Parks' petition asks the government to make protecting parks a legal requirement

A nationwide petition calling for compulsory protection of parks is rapidly gathering support via the online petition site 38 Degrees.

The ‘Save Our Parks’ petition asks the government to make protecting parks a legal requirement, ensuring they’re both properly maintained and kept free for everyone to use.

The petition follows reports such as the recent Heritage Lottery Fund’s Parks Matter, warning of an impending crisis in funding and resources currently faced by parks. It coincides with a parliamentary inquiry into public parks by the Communities and Local Government Committee to examine the impact of reduced local authority budgets and consider concerns, raised by bodies such as HLF, that parks are under threat.

By Monday afternoon, the petition had passed 205,000 signatures, and was still rising.
